What is Sublimation?

Sublimation is a process by which sublimation dyes are printed onto a piece of transfer paper with a special inkjet printer. Then, those dyes on the transfer paper are applied to the garment or promotional item under the heat and pressure delivered by a commercial heat press. When the heat and pressure are applied, the dye on the transfer paper “sublimates,” or becomes gas and is then absorbed into the polyester–the print is actually a “part” of the garment or item coating. It doesn’t fade easily, wear, or have any texture or weight.

Appearance

When the heating cycle is complete, the design on the paper has been transferred to the item and has actually reformed into or underneath the surface. So, if you run your finger across the surface of the sublimated garment or item, you will feel nothing but the fabric or item. Since the dye penetrates the fibers of the garment or the coating of the promotional item, the design will never fade, crack, or peel.

Best Applications

Sublimation only works on garments made of 100% polyester or on specialty items made of polyester or are given a polyester coating. Dark materials cannot be used with the sublimated process; so all sublimated apparel and promotional items start out as solid white.

Cost

Pricing depends on the number and style of items purchased. The minimum for custom sublimated shirts is 4 and you can select from button-down shirts, polo shirts, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. As long as you provide us with vector artwork, there will be no setup charges.
